Celebration Edition

The BMW M4 CSL was unveiled earlier this year. It is one of a few models that BMW has created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its in-house performance division. The M4 CSL has a 3,0-litre twin-turbocharged inline six which develops 405 kW. Peak torque remains at 650 N.m developed from a lowly 2 750 r/min.

An eight-speed torque converter automatic sends power exclusively to the rear axle. BMW says the M4 CSL takes just 3,7 seconds to cover the benchmark test. Producing so much torque from low revs can overwhelm the tyres pretty easily.

Arch-rivals

The Porsche GT3 is the closest thing to a direct rival the BMW M4 CSL has. The GT3 has a naturally aspirated flat-six engine. In its latest guise the 4,0-litre unit develops an impressive 375 kW (or 510 hp in old money) and 470 N.m of torque. Maximum engine speed of the motor is 9 000 r/min.

Power is sent solely to the rear axle via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (PDK) transmission. Porsche says its latest charge can blast from standstill to 100 km/h in just 3,4 seconds.
