Koenigsegg seems to enjoy setting and breaking records. The company just announced that its Jesko breaks the Laguna Seca lap record for production vehicles. Test driver Markus Lundh tackled the tight and twisty California circuit in 1 min 24,86 seconds. Incidentally, Lundh was also responsible for this recent record.

Jesko

The Jesko has a twin-turbocharged 5,0-litre V8. The engine cranks out 1 177 kW along with 1 500 N.m of torque on E85 fuel. Those figures drop just a little to 941 kW/1 000 N.m on regular pump fuel. Koenigsegg says that the halo model can sprint from 0-100 km/h in under three seconds. The quoted top speed is 485 km/h in ‘regular’ spec. This variant is said to have 1 000 kg of downforce. The low-drag Absolut version is said to be capable of doing 530 km/h. The latter is a claim that we have yet to see verified, although the company has eluded to a top speed attempt in the making.

Tight and Tricky

Laguna Seca is well known to racers the world over as it has the famous ‘corkscrew’ corner, which plunges down several metres and changes direction midway through. You can see a dramatic-looking Indy NXT incident that took place there earlier this year by clicking this link. The 3,6-km circuit isn’t really suited for a large car with oodles of power. The time is pretty impressive considering neither the car or driver had been to the track before. For reference, a slick-shod Ferrari Challenge car set a time of 1 min 23,5 earlier this year. The previous holder of the production car record was the US-made Czinger 21C that set a time of 1 min 25,44 in 2021. Watch Lundh in action below as he manhandles the hypercar.
