Drag races don’t come more diverse and, funnily enough, more well-matched at the same time than this hard-core sportscar drag race. The chaps from Lovecars have put together an interesting challenge that features two natural rivals.

Representing Italy is the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. The most hard-core of the Lamborghini range was based on the older, pre-facelift, Huracan. It is no longer available as a new model as the Evo version has the same engine and some interesting aerodynamic systems at play. Read our Lamborghini Huracan Evo driving impression at this link. The Performante has max outputs of 470 kW at 8 000 r/min and 600 N.m at 6 500 r/min. The naturally aspirated V10 is hooked up to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that is mated to an all-wheel-drive system. The claimed acceleration is a 0-100 km/h sprint of 3,1 sec, 0-200 km/h in 9,3 sec and top whack of 325 km/h.

In the British corner is the McLaren 620R. This is the most powerful version of McLaren’s Sports Series. Just 350 units of the 620R were built. It is powered by the same 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine used in the GT4 racecar. The ECU has been reconfigured to help unleash 456 kW of power and 620 N.m of torque. Benchmark performance figures are 0-100 km/h in 2,9 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 8,1 seconds and maximum speed of 322 km/h. The 620R is pretty rapid off the line considering it is rear-wheel drive. With two different engines and drivetrains, but similar performance this hard-core sportscar drag race should be a close-fought affair.
