An all-new AC Cobra GT Roadster has made its global premiere in London this week. The latest version of the famous sportscar is made by the very same company that produced the original AC Cars roadster that morphed into the Cobra. Just 250 examples of the GT Roadster are expected to be built, in right- and left-hand drive versions, with the first year of production already spoken for.

Old Looks, Modern Tech

The all-new AC Cobra GT Roadster may have the curvy shape of the original but it is made using the latest technology, engineering processes and materials. For example, the evocative shape is fashioned from carbon-fibre.

An aluminium spaceframe chassis lies below the lightweight material. In part this materials help it achieve a total mass of less than 1,5 tons, even though the newer car is larger in all directions. The increase in size also helps the cabin accommodate occupants of larger frame sizes.

Speaking of the cabin, the new-gen car has all the amenities to help it earn its GT credentials. It has modcons such as air-conditioning, a touchscreen infotainment interface, as well as remote controls on the steering. That steering wheel looks suspiciously as though it’s been nicked from a Ford Mustang.

V8 Power

Sticking with tradition, the AC Cobra GT Roadster is powered by a V8 engine. The 5,0-litre motor is available in two flavours: naturally aspirated or fitted with a supercharger. The latter engine produces 488 kW/780 N.m and the NA version 339 kW/570 N.m.

The supercharged GT Roadster is said to spring from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3,4 sec. A six-speed manual gearbox or a 10-speed automatic can be coupled with both engines. Learn more about the new-gen Cobra in the video below.
