It seems like not that long ago we attended the launch of the GR Yaris (read our report here). But Toyota is not happy to leave its pocket rocket alone and introduced a revised GR Yaris at the Tokyo Auto Salon this week.

Self-Shifter

The biggest news surrounding the revised GR Yaris is the option of an automatic transmission. The new unit has been dubbed a Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission or GRDAT (not really, we just made that up). The eight-speed unit has been engineered for competition-fast gear changes according to Toyota. Good news for purists is that the six-speeder is still an option.

Other mechanical changes include a touch more power from the 1,6-litre, three-cylinder motor. The turbocharged engine now produces 206 kW and 390 N.m, up from 198/360. The upgraded engine also benefits from a strengthened valvetrain, new lightweight pistons with wear-resistant rings and an updated intake pressure sensor.

Other Changes

There have been other areas of revision. These include a few subtle visual changes, mainly for better aero performance and cooling. The body-in-white is also stiffer thanks to a few more spot welds in the construction process.

Toyota has also taken feedback from owner’s to improve the driving experience. One of these is lowering of the driver’s seat by 25 mm. Other interior changes include a revised cockpit layout with improved sightlines from the driver’s seat.
