Double anniversary at 2022 Concorso d’Eleganza
2022 Concorso d’Eleganza featured a number of BMWs. The German automaker, which organises the event, displayed an array of racecars and M Division products. M, the company’s in-house performance arm, turns 50 this year and is celebrating this milestone all year. In fact, it took the occasion of the Concorso d’Eleganza to show the M4 CSL to the public for the very first time. BMW-owned Rolls Royce also unveiled the second version of its hand-built Boat Tail at the lakeside manor.

Ferrari is celebrating its 75 year anniversary. Accordingly, there were several extremely rare models on display at Villa d’Este this year. The legendary 365 P Berlinetta Speciale (above) was included among these. Only two examples of the sleek coupe were built. Interestingly, the 365 P has a three-seat layout with a central driving position. It is similar to that popularised by the McLaren F1, but the Ferrari pre-dates the F1 by about three decades. Rare Ferraris lined up alongside newer race machinery and classics from several other brands. Among the more modern representatives was a one-of-19 Ferrari F40 LM.

The Concorso d’Eleganza committee had dedicated a full class to the stately Mercedes-Benz Kompressor cars. These included the purple 630 K Coupe de Ville Saoutchik, the 1936 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Cabriolet and the Mercedes-Benz 710 SS. Newer models on show included a street-legal Nissan R390 GT1, a Lamborghini Countach and Porsche 959 S with only 885 kilometres on the odo.
