One-of-a-Kind

The world’s only V12 Ferrari F40 started out life as a crash-test car. The car was offered to a Ferrari racer and race workshop in the UK called Simpson Motorsport. The pair decided to undertake the costly rebuild. The project consisted of redesigning the body to lighter-spec F40 GTE-style bodywork. Other upgrades included a full FIA roll-cage, new alloys and custom-made suspension.

Rather than follow the twin-turbo V8 route of the standard car, the company installed a type F133 V12 Ferrari 550 Maranello engine. The motor puts out just over 400 kW. This is just a little more than the standard car’s 357 kW. However, the power delivery from the V12 will be completely different. That output is pretty handy in a car that now weighs just 1 075 kg. A Hewland NLT six-speed sequential transmission is mated with the naturally aspirated engine. What do you think of this combination?
