BMW has been giving us glimpses and info about this car for some time. Finally, the second generation BMW M2 has been unveiled. The new range-topper is certainly polarising in its appearance, so we will let you make up your own mind in that regard. We can expect the new BMW M2 to go on sale locally from the second quarter of 2023. Attendees of the upcoming BMW M Fest will be able to see the car this coming weekend.

Packing Power

The compact performance car is unique in this segment as it offers a six-cylinder engine. The turbocharged unit, similar to that of the M3/4, develops maximum output of 338 kW and peak torque of 550 N.m. The engine sends drive solely to the rear axle. New buyers can choose between a the standard eight-speed automatic and an optional six-speed manual – nice!

The new BMW M2 can sprint from to 100 km/h in 4,1 seconds with the auto’ transmission and in 4,3 seconds with the six-speed manual. The top speed of the new BMW M2 is limited to 250 km/h, but that can be raised to 285 km/h if you take the optional M Driver’s Package.

Rolling Stock

The second generation BMW M2 rides on staggered wheel sizes of 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear. The massive alloys cover compound brakes with six-piston calipers at the front and single-piston calipers at the rear. The braking system offers two settings for pedal feel and response.

BMW tuned the M2 at various racetracks, including the Nurburgring Nordscheife. The suspension includes adaptive, electronically controlled dampers and steering with variable ratio are standard. Other highlights include a DSC system with variable rate traction control as per the driver’s desires. There is also additional body bracing on the new M2 versus any other 2 Series.

More Goodies

BMW will be offering a few choice options over and above the standard specification. These include an M race track package. This comprises a carbon roof, carbon bucket seats and interior trim strips in carbon-fibre finish along with stickier tyres.
