In a world where even hot hatches make serious firepower, some are going back to a simpler time. A bygone era of less power and lower mass. The Kamm 912c is a restomod that aims to prove that less is more. Well, in this case, less is more as the price of this retro-looking creation is an eye-watering R7,5m. That’s the price in Europe and doesn’t include import duties or taxes into SA.

KAMManufaktur, creators of the Kamm 912c, founder Miklós Kázmér said, “I am delighted to present the production specification KAMM 912c to the world. The 912c is designed to be as usable as a modern car but retains the driving experience of a classic racing car. We provide reliability and performance with the analogue feel you would expect from a sports car of the sixties, and this makes it unique in the restomod sector.”

Period Perfect

The company’s press material states that” The 912c looks and feels period correct with modern touches adding unseen improvements and enhancements. It appears to be an all-original classic, which stands up to close scrutiny, improving the iconic 912 without losing its style, ethos, or character. The result is a dynamically exciting, classic racer which delights the senses whilst offering a level of usability not found in traditional classic racing cars.

Changes

But what exactly does one get for that price tag (which includes a donor car, if you are wondering)? A highly modified 2,0-litre engine that produces 142 kW and 228 N.m of torque is the star of the show. That may not sound like a lot for a Porsche, but the Kamm 912c weighs just 750 kg. That’s about half the mass of a current GT3.

The naturally aspirated motor breathes through individual throttle bodies and is fed by a Life management system. A five-speed manual transmission (with dog-leg first gear position) is coupled with the engine. A limited-slip differential feeds power to the 15-inch wheels.

From dynamics point of view the car rides on five-way (in-car) adjustable coilover suspension. It also has a quick-rack steering of 2,5 turns lock-to-lock. It boasts a lightweight APC brake set-up to help reduce unsprung mass.

Some of the standard specification includes electronic air-conditioning, carbon-fibre seats, lightweight carpets and an AP Racing pedal box. Each car is essentially custom-made and buyers can choose their own specification. Options include a full carbon-fibre body, Lexan windows, an array of wheel designs and more.
