Heavy Hitters

Hyundai returns to Pikes Peak with an all-star driving team. This includes Paul Dallenbach who is an eleven-time winner of the event. He is joined by Robin Shute, a four-time overall winner and King of the Mountain title holder. And the last known name, for now, is WRC star Daniel “Dani” Sordo. The final driver will be announced at a later date.

Interestingly, Hyundai is playing its cards close to its chest when it comes to the cars it is entering. Hyundai has previously entered production-based machines as well as fully-fledged prototypes to tackle the 20 km course.

If we had to bet, we’d say the team will field an array of battery powered models, both production-based (think Ioniq N) as well as something along the lines of VW’s ID.R, which is the current record holder on the Colorado course.

Long History

Hyundai has been taking cars to Pikes Peak for over 30 years, in a bid to prove its performance credential to the tough American market. Since the first event the Korean automaker has notched up several category and even overall wins at the event.
