A few years ago a car with 400+ kW was more than likely made by an exotic manufacturer and considered a supercar. Today that number is the stuff of performance SUVs. The latest member to join the fray is the Range Rover Sport SVR Ultimate edition.

The Range Rover Sport SVR Ultimate edition is the latest creation by the company’s in-house customisation division called Special Vehicle Operations (SVO). As the name suggests, this is the fastest and most powerful SUV available from Land Rover. It will be offered to local buyers early in 2022.

Mark Turner, commercial director, Land Rover SV Bespoke, said: Range Rover Sport SVR redefined Land Rover high-performance capability when it was introduced in 2014. We’ve sold more than 20 000 examples to date and demand for the SVR’s characterful mix of power, luxury and thrilling dynamics continues to grow every year. The SV Bespoke personalisation features of this Ultimate edition elevate its appeal even further.”

Bespoke appearance

To help differentiate the Range Rover Sport SVR Ultimate from ‘lesser’ Range Rovers it is available exclusively in three paint colours: Maya Blue Gloss, Marl Grey Gloss, or satin-finished Ligurian Black. The roof section is finished in black, as are the mirror caps, grille surrounds and 22-inch forged alloys.

A few key details are visible to the keen observer, including white side vents and edges of the Gloss Black knurled Range Rover lettering on the tailgate and body-coloured vented carbon fibre bonnet. The special treatment continues in the cabin that has illuminated ‘Ultimate’ edition treadplates, black anodised metal gearshift paddles and chrome SV Bespoke B-pillar badges.

Powerhouse

Under the clamshell bonnet is the company’s familiar 5,0-litre supercharged motor. In this guise it produces a whopping 423 kW and 700 N.m of torque. With all-wheel-drive the large SUV sprints from rest to 100 km/h in 4,5 seconds and tops out at 283 km/h.
