The Lancia Delta Integrale is one of the most iconic rally machines of all time. For ages it flew under the radar in terms of its popularity in the eyes of the general public. However, that seems to have changed of late as several companies have worked their magic on the boxy hatch. The latest is the Manhart Integrale 400.

Italian Soul, German Engineering

Manhart is well known for the work it carries out on products from its homeland of Germany. You can see other examples of their handiwork by clicking here. But this time they have revitalised an Italian icon.

The bulk of their attention was spent under the bonnet. As a result the Manhart Integrale 400 has a much improved engine. The turbocharged inline four now pumps out 276 kW/550 N.m, which is quite an improvement over the standard car’s 147 kW/298 N.m of torque.

The power increase is thanks to a combination of a new turbo, forged pistons and conrods and a new camshaft. Both manifolds are also new, as is the fuel pump and rewritten software to control it all. The rejuvenated engine breathes through a new exhaust system that ends with two fat tailpipes.

Other Upgrades

Manhart beefed up the five-speed manual transmission with new components. The driveline also features a new clutch to handle the extra torque. Other upgrades include KW suspension and a big brake kit. The latter consists of Brembo calipers on 380 mm discs up front and 284 mm items at the rear. The OZ Racing Rallye Racing 17-inch wheels wrapped in 205 mm rubber are just the perfect finishing touch to this modernised classic.
