It’s been a few days since we’ve featured a drag race from UK automotive website Car Wow. We could not resist sharing this performance Lamborghini drag race featuring two of the quicker raging bulls to escape SantAgata. You can view more drag race videos at this link.

Naturally aspirated

The two rivals lining up in the performance Lamborghini drag race are powered by free-breathing engines, neither making use of any form of forced induction. Lamborghini is one of the few remaining manufacturers to offer high-revving naturally aspirate engines in its line-up. The only turbocharged powerplant on offer from the Italian automaker is found in the Urus SUV (which we drove and reported on here).

22 cylinders

Boasting a V12 motor and all-wheel-drive is the Aventador SVJ, the most extreme road-going series production Lamborghini ever made. The supercar’s peak output is rated as 576 kW with 700 N.m of torque from the mid-mounted motor. Power is sent to all four corners through robotised manual transmission with a single clutch. Coupled with a mass of 1 525 kg the SVJ is said to sprint to 100 km/h in 2,8 seconds. Flat out it will do 350 km/h. An uprated suspension set-up, with bespoke semi-slick Pirelli Trofeo rubber developed especially for this car, is just part of the grip equation.

The Aventador’s little brother is the track-focussed Huracan Performante. One of our international correspondents drove the track-focussed Huracan and reported his thoughts about the model on our site.  It is powered by 5,2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine that develops 471 kW. It is also all-wheel-drive but it has a dual-clutch transmission. The Performante has been discontinued and the current range-leader is the Huracan Evo. You can read our Huracan Evo local drive report here.

These limited-edition performance models square off in a series of straight line challenges, most importantly a standing start quarter mile sprint.
