There are plenty of companies around the world building Porsche restomods, but MST focusses its attention on classic Fords. Say hello to the latest creation from the UK-based firm, called the Mk2 Evo-X. As a reminder, MST produces cars from brand-new body shells, which is probably why you won’t see the name ‘Ford’ in the name. That is in contrast to companies such as Singer Vehicle Design that ‘restore’ old Porsches.

Brand Spanking New
The MST Mk2 Evo-X may appear like a Mk2 Ford Escort RS2000 but it is all new from the ground up. It takes inspiration from a car some Ford fundis may know, called the X-pack, hence the name. MST hand-builds the shells that are engineered to be full on rally or racecars. The process includes body and chassis strengthening plates and gussets added to handle the extra power. In addition there is a large transmission tunnel, under floor skid platers, welded in seat rails, centrally mounted fuel tank and strut brace.

A completely new carbon-fibre body clothes the custom shell. The new look includes wider wheel arches, an RS2000-look (or droop snoot) front-end as well as a carbon-fibre rear spoiler and diffuser. The wider arches are in place to accommodate 17-inch alloys. Michelin Pilot Cup Sport tyres are fitted to the retro-looking alloys. Reiger adjustable coilovers are fitted at each corner. The custom suspension allows for a wide range of adjustment. There is even a WRC-spec independent rear suspension for those who wish to add an extra level of control. Both axles feature AP Racing multi-pot calipers.
Naturally Aspirated
The Mk2 Evo-X can be fitted with a choice of four-cylinder engines that are naturally aspirated and feature dry-sump lubrication. A 2,5-litre Duratec unit develops 205 kW while a 2,8-litre version produces 272. Those are some pretty nice numbers and the motors must sound glorious breathing through individual throttle bodies. A limited-slip differential sends power solely to the rear axle. Buyers can choose between a five-speed H-gate or a six-speed sequential transmission.
