AMG debuted its racecars on Europe racetracks 55 years ago. The two ex-Mercedes staffers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, left the company to pursue their passion: motorsport. Mercedes-Benz has since taken over full ownership of the once independent company. High-performance models carry the Mercedes-AMG badge, such as this latest creation, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55.

Ultra-exclusive

Just five units of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 will be produced. The concept is based on the company’s GT3 racer, but these Edition 55 versions are not eligible to race. This means that they are all destined for private collections. Click here to check out our exclusive video of the first AMG GT3 to be raced by a local team.

Power Bump

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 is powered by the same 6,3-litre engine as the FIA-approved machines. However, without the need for intake restrictors the naturally aspirated engine produces 485 kW, a full 75 kW (100 hp) more than the GT3 car. AMG engineers have also removed the silencers from the exhaust system for more audio enjoyment. It’s a pity AMG did not release a video or sound clip for us to share with you.

Bespoke Appearance

The exterior colour is alpine grey. There are red accents on the front and rear diffusers, the rear wing, flicks, fender vents, radiator grille, and side skirts. The cars also carry a massive  AMG crest with a 55-year anniversary symbol. ‘55’ logos on the seats earmark the cabins. A Bosch high-resolution screen presents all vital info to the pilot.

Each car will cost a hair over R10,5m using today’s exchange rate. We can’t wait to see one at our local track day.
