BMW South Africa has been celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The celebrations will soon end, but not before one final special model has been released: the BMW Alpina B3 50 Years of BMW South Africa edition.

Going Back

The BMW Alpina B3 50 Years of BMW South Africa edition is the latest SA-only model to be produced by the speed merchants from Germany. The last was the BMW 333i, which was produced in SA exclusively for the local market. The B3 50 Years will be produced in even fewer numbers than the 200-odd 333is that were made. The newer car will be produced in a limited run of five units, all of which are already sold. The price, just for interest’s sake, is R2 960 341,20.

Standout

This celebration derivative will be distinctive thanks to a few specific touches. The most noticeable will be the Alpina Green II metallic paint and 20-inch multi-spoke alloys. Other exterior details include Alpina decals and a unique front spoiler.

The celebratory touches are reserved for the interior. Full leather seats wear BMW Group South Africa 50 Years anniversary logos on front seat headrests. A plaque on the centre console declares each unit as one of five.

More Power

The BMW Alpina B3 is fitted with a twin turbocharged 3,0-litre, inline six. The engine develops 364 kW and peak torque of 730 N.m. An eight-speed transmission transfers power to all four wheels. BMW says the car will sprint from 0-100km/h in 3,6 seconds before going on to a top speed of 305 km/h.
