Turbo and all-wheel-drive

Under the curvy and vented bonnet of Italian model is a 2,9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine that develops 375 kW and 600 N.m of torque. It sends power to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Click here to read our Alfa Romeo Stelvio driving review.

The smaller German challenger has a very distinctive engine note thanks to its famed inline five-pot motor. The turbocharged 2,5-litre engine produces 294 kW and 480 N.m of torque. As with all sporty Audi models power is channelled to a quattro all-wheel-drive system after passing through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Porsche’s Macan Turbo features a 2,9-litre V6 motor that develops 324 kW and 550 N.m of peak torque. The latter is developed in a plateau from 1 800 to 5 600 r/min. Power, as with all versions, is delivered to four corners through a slick-shifting dual-clutch (PDK in Porsche speak) transmission that offers seven forward ratios.
