The International Continental GT Challenge resumes its shortened season with the 2020 Kyalami 9 Hour. This weekend’s event at the Midrand circuit will be the final race of the world’s only international GT3 series. Most race series have struggled in the wake of the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. IGTC managed one race, the Bathurst 12 Hour, in Australia before racing was paused. On-track resumed many months later with two rounds taking place in October, Indianapolis (USA) and Spa (Belgium), and Kyalami serves as the season-finale.

Many teams have chosen to forego the trip to South Africa and the 2020 Kyalami 9 Hour entry list therefore consists of just 12 teams. Audi, Bentley, BMW, Honda and Porsche will duel for overall honours over nine gruelling hours on Saturday December 12. Racing is scheduled to start at 11:00 and end at 20:00 (SA time).

Local lads

Several local teams tried their hand at world-level endurance racing in 2019. In 2020, just a single locally based outfit will be competing. Team Perfect Circle teamed up with Hacking Racing to fly the SA flag. Capetonian advocate Andre Bezuidenhout and Joburger Saul Hack are joined by Porsche Supercup regular Dylan Pereira. The trio will be piloting a 991.2 GT3 R with technical support from Lechner Racing. Other SA drivers in the field include Jordan Pepper (Bentley), Kelvin van der Linde (Audi) and Sheldon van der Linde (BMW).
