The RS500 Carbon Piranha is the ultimate restomod for fans for fans of the Ford Sierra. Vision 148 is the group responsible for this reimagined homologation special. Even better is it that plans to give the car away to one superfan at the end of the build process. How fricken cool is that?

Resto-goodness

The restomod (restoration and modification) treatment is being applied to more and more classic cars. And we are all for it. Using modern tech gives old cars a new lease on life. You can check out some recent restomods that we’ve covered on on website by clicking this link. Fast Fords are part and parcel of the motoring landscape here in SA. From rallying Mk1 Escorts to turbo whooshing Focus RS versions, we’ve had them all. One notable exception, however, was the Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth. The ‘Cossie’ was built in limited numbers to allow Ford to compete in Touring Car racing, but not imported to SA.

Modern Take

UK company Vision 148 is taking car 148 from the limited production run and completely revitalising it. The plans include a new, restyled body. The new look features wider wheel arches, a deeply vented bonnet and a lighter version of the famous rear wing. The new body will be made entirely from carbon-fibre. As a result it will help lower the car’s mass to the target of under one ton.

Cosworth will be rebuilding the car’s engine. That’s pretty handy as the engineering firm helped created the 2,0-litre turbocharged mill. In period, the engine developed just shy of 170 kW in road-going trim. It is reported that the racecars produced closer to 370 kW (or 500 hp). Vision 148 has kept mum on the eventual power that Cosworth will liberate from the RS500 Carbon Piranha.
