Totem Automobili is a small-scale manufacturer that announced itself to the world in 2020. The Italian firm unveiled a modernised version of the classic 105 series Alfa Romeo. Except, the newer version carries an electric drivetrain. The automaker will gain far more cred for its recent creation: the Totem Automobili GT Super.

Larger All Round

The Totem Automobili GT Super made its public debut at the recent Pebble Beach event, which forms part of Monterey Car Week held in California. The new car may have overt Alfa design cues, but it is completely new from the ground up. Totem will only produced 20 units of the GT Super.

Totem Automobili has taken the shape of the original Alfa and stretched out the dimensions by 10 per cent to make the car more user/occupant friendly. In fact, it is almost 200 mm longer than the design that it mimics.

All-new

Most restomods start with the unibody of the car they wish to modernise. In contrast, the Totem Automobili GT Super features a completely new carbon-fibre monocoque. To this the company adds sub-frames for the front and rear suspension. Speaking of which, the Super GT rides on double wishbones at all four corners. The car’s ‘skin’ is also made from carbon-fibre. Totem claims the coupe tips the scales at a light 1 180 kg.

The cabin may have a vintage look, but the on-board infotainment system has modern features. These include a 3,5 inch screen with Google Maps, DAB+ radio, Bluetooth connection and USB ports.

V6TT

Under the bonnet lies a bespoke 2,8-litre V6. A small-scale Italian manufacturer is responsible for producing the twin-turbocharged engine. Peak power can exceed 510 kW at 7 200 r/min, which is allied with maximum torque of 700 N.m. A six-speed manual transmission with a rear transaxle sends power to the rear wheels.

The powertrain features four driving modes dubbed: Gentile, Adagio, Vivace, Veloce. Totem says that maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h but there are no acceleration figures to share.
