The Geneva Motor Show was supposed to start tomorrow but it was cancelled on Friday (as we reported here). Automakers have been preparing for this showcase for months and plan to unveil their creations one way or another. The first to debut is the Renault Morphoz Concept, which Renault unveiled earlier today. Renault’s press material says The Morphoz embodies the Me/We concept, which says that what is one person’s can be shared. It challenges the idea of the car as private, and instead encourages shared use.

All-electric

The Renault Morphoz Concept is a look into the future of mobility as envisioned by the French marque. Its overall shape lies somewhere between an SUV and a large family hatchback. It is based on the automaker’s CMF-EV modular electric platform. Depending on the battery installed the range is anywhere between 400- and 700 km on a full charge. This allows for different configurations of power, capacity and range, and “habitability and trunk volume.”

Added to the electric drivetrain is level-three autonomy. This means that the Morphoz has traditional driver controls (steering wheel, pedals, etc) but that control can be handed over to the automated systems in certain scenarios. The Morphoz also uses a high degree of connectivity and AI to customise the user experience depending on who is using the car at the time.

Party trick

And if you are wondering about the name that leads us to the Morphoz’s party trick: the ability to morph between two different sizes. City is the smaller of the two, providing less space and a smaller boot. In Travel mode the car is longer and more spacious. Renault says Morphoz provides “a personalized adaptation to the needs, desires and uses of each person.” Its overall length can be increased by 200 mm.
