Imagine owning a movie icon. Now imagine owning a movie icon that was driven by a movie icon. That’s exactly what one fan has managed to do by buying Paul Walker’s Nissan GT-R. The car was recently sold by Bonhams auction house for a record-setting price.

Scene Stealer

The car, pictured above, appeared in Fast and Furious 4. Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Connor, chose the Bayside Blue R34 as his ride of choice from a police impound. It appeared in several scenes, however, it was the only genuine R34 GT-R that appeared on screen. All others used in the action sequences were replicas dressed to look like the hero car.

A Rebuild

The car, which was built by Kaizo Industries, was specced by Walker himself for the movie. Nissan GT-R R34s were not allowed in the US at the time. The shell was imported into the US and a correct, turbocharged inline-six fitted. This allowed Kaizo to exploit a loophole, as the car was billed a ‘kit car’.

Paul Walker’s Nissan GT-R upgrade list includes a Turbonetics front-mount intercooler, Nismo lowering springs, a custom-built roll cage, Volk Racing alloys, a big brake conversion, a Momo Sport Alcantara steering wheel and OMP seats with five-point harnesses.

Legal Wrangle

After filming of the 2009 movie wrapped up the production crew began work on the sequel: Fast Five. But the car was seized and impounded by the US Border Force as it originated as an assembled vehicle by Kaizo. In 2012, the vehicle was eventually released from impound and was exported to Germany, where it has remained since.

In a recent auction Paul Walker’s Nissan GT-R fetched an unbelievable U$1 357 000, that’s just shy of R27 million using the current exchange rate. This price is a new auction world record for a Nissan Skyline GT-R, more than doubling the previous record set in 2022 ($577 500).
