South Africa’s entry-level hatch segment is about to get a bit more crowded with the imminent arrival of the new Nissan Micra.

All-new

The fifth generation Micra will debut locally later this week and it will compete with the likes of the VW Polo and Ford Fiesta. The new model is far more striking than the bulbous predecessor it replaces.

Not only is it more attractive than the older car, it is also more high-tech as well. Under the bonnet is a new 0,9-litre, inline three-cylinder turbopetrol engine with peak power of 66 kW and 140 N.m of torque. The only transmission option, for now anyway, is a 5-speed manual, which sends power to the front wheels.

Options

Buyers can choose between three trim levels Visia, Acenta and Acenta+. The Micra Visia comes with black upholstery and rides on 15-inch steel wheels. The Acenta has two-tone, black and grey upholstery and 16-inch alloys. The top spec Acenta+ comes fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels and funky ‘Energy Orange’ upholstery.

All models feature satellite controls on the steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, MP3, USB and iPod compatibility, cruise control and hills start assist. The two Acenta models are fitted with a 7-inch colour touchscreen display with satellite navigation.
