Another futuristic concept car was unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show earlier today, the Mitsubishi Mi-Tech Concept. Mitsubishi’s press blurb states the Mi-Tech Concept is designed to be a dynamic buggy-type vehicle that embodies the very essence of Mitsubishi-ness. Other concept models shown for the first time at the 46th running of the show included this Toyota and the Lexus LF-30.

All-wheel-drive fun

The Mitsubishi MI-Tech Concept is a small plug-in hybrid electric SUV. It was created to deliver driving fun over all terrain. Mi-Tech boasts a four-motor electric AWD system, advanced driver assist and preventive safety technologies-all packed into the small electrified SUV.

The power generator in the new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) drivetrain is a lightweight, compact gas turbine engine. The gas turbine engine-generator has a powerful output for its size and weight. Another benefit of using this, as opposed to a petrol engine, is its flexibility to run on a variety of fuels such as diesel, kerosene and alcohol.

Mitsubishi has applied some of its well-known acronyms to its latest creation. S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control system has been rolled out to a quad motor AWD System with front and rear dual-motor active yaw Control (AYC). Electric brake calipers also allow for control of drive and braking force of the four wheels. When driving off-road and two wheels are off the ground, the system has the ability to transmit driving force to the two wheels still on the ground and keep driving.

Info at the ready

The vehicle comes equipped with Human Machine Interface (HMI) which displays various pieces of information detected through sensing technology including advanced optical sensors on an augmented reality (AR) windshield. With vehicle, road, and surrounding traffic conditions shown on the AR windshield, drivers can make decisions even in poor visibility. The Mitsubishi MI-Tech Concept is also equipped also with MI-Pilot. This is Mitsubishi’s next-generation driver assistance technology, which assists on freeways and ordinary roads and on unpaved roads.
