Maserati is a brand that has a long heritage of producing sportscars, and a strong motorsport pedigree. However, all of that lies in the distant past with the Italian marque not doing anything particularly exciting these last few decades. That all changed recently with the unveiling of the Maserati MC20 supercar.

New age

The Maserati MC20 (MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020) is the brand’s latest creation, and its most exciting for years. Its appearance is typical of mid-mount supercar, with cues from older Maserati models about its design. The aerodynamics were honed in the Dallara wind tunnel after more than a thousand CFD simulations. That sleek exterior hides a carbon-fibre monocoque. The Maserati MC20 rides on double wishbone suspension at all four corners.

Under the glass engine cover is an all-new engine, the first developed by Maserati in over 20 years. The engine, dubbed Nettuno, is a twin-turbocharged V6 unit. It produces 464 kW of power with 730 N.m of torque between 3 000 and 5 500 r/min. Power is sent to the rear axle through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Maserati says the MC20 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in under 2,9 seconds and it has a top speed over 325 km/h. Brembo ventilated discs measure 380 mm up front and 350 at the rear. The discs are clamped by six- and four piston calipers, respectively. Maserati’s press material already confirms that they plan to go racing with its new creation.

Interior

Two 10-inch screens keep the button count in the cabin to a minimum. One screen conveys info to the driver the other controls the Maserati Multimedia System. A wireless smartphone charger, the driving mode selector (GT, Wet, Sport, Corsa and a fifth, ESC off), two speed-selection buttons, the power window controls are the only physical switches on the console. All the other controls are on the steering wheel, with the ignition button on the left and the launch control on the right.
