Hypercar manufacturer Koenigsegg enjoys making headlines. The Swedish company makes news again today as its Koenigsegg Regera breaks the 0-400-0 km/h record.

Setting and resetting

Almost two years ago the company set a new 0-400-0 km/h record using a production Agera RS. The record was set at 33,29 seconds, quicker than any other car has ever managed for this test. Considering that not many cars attain top speeds of over 400 km/h, it was clear that Koenigsegg was aiming for the powerhouse hypercars from Bugatti.

This new record was set by the Koenigsegg Regera at Råda airfield in Sweden. The car driven by company test driver Sonny Persson set a new 0-400-0 km/h world record run of 31,49 seconds on 23 September 2019. The Regera only took 22,87 seconds to accelerate to 400 km/h over 1 613 m. Deceleration to a stop took just 8,62 seconds over a distance of 435,26 m. The total distance used for 0-400-0 km/h was 2 048,5 m.

Watch until the end of the video and you will hear the team from Koenigsegg allude to another record… Perhaps they will soon take a stab at the Bugatti Chiron top speed record.

Hybrid powerplant

For those who don’t know, the Koenigsegg Regera is powered by a hybrid powertrain. The petrol-powered part of the equation is a twin-turbocharged 5,0-litre V8 of the company’s own design. With the electrical component, the hypercar produces over 1 100 kW of power and 2 000 N.m of torque. Interestingly, the car uses its electrical drive system to get up to speed, and therefore has a single-speed transmission.

In his own words

CEO and founder Christian von Koenigsegg comments: “This was a good opportunity to showcase the true capability of the Regera’s one-of-a-kind Direct Drive transmission. As the Regera only has one gear we had to make use of it from standstill to the record top speed of 403 km/h limited by rpm. At any given time, the Regera can and will accelerate harder in that speed range than any other production car known to us.”
