An all-new BMW X2 has just debuted. This is the second generation of BMW’s small coupe SUV. Good news for local BMW fans is that the model will be coming to South Africa in the early part of 2024.

Bigger and More Aggro

The all-new BMW X2 has taken somewhat of a stylistic departure from its predecessor. Gone are the gentle lines and curves to be replaced by a more angular and aggressive appearance, such as the headlamps and sharp lines on the bumper. There are a few traits borrowed from the BMW XM. You can even option the BMW kidney grille with contour lighting.

The new X2 shares a 2 692 mm wheelbase with the latest-generation BMW X1, which gives us an indication of a shared platform. The X2 is 194 mm longer than its predecessor as well as 21 mm wider and 64 mm taller. As a result, it boasts a slightly larger cabin for added comfort.

New-Age

Speaking of the interior. The facia boasts the company’s latest ‘curved display’. The fully digital system has BMW’s latest OS9 software. Other carryovers from the X1 include the ‘floating’ centre console between the front sweats. This hosts the starter button, electronic handbrake and electronic gear selector. The space below is ideal for wallets and mobile phones.

Derivatives

BMW has chosen to debut the performance version of the range around the world. The same applies in SA. A 2,0-litre turbocharged engine powers the X2 M35i xDrive. This powertrain produces 233 kW and 400 N.m of torque. Other derivatives will include an 18i sDrive and a turbodiesel version that is yet to be confirmed. We expect both to mirror the X1 range in terms of output. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to all four wheels in all derivatives.
