The Jaguar Simola Hill Climb took place in Knysna this past weekend. The hill climb is fast becoming one of South Africa’s premier motorsport events.

It attracts some incredible machinery from all corners of SA. Pukka racecars, road cars and purpose-built machines all vie for honours to be quickest up the 1,9 km-long track.

Here’s a sample of just some of the vehicles seen in action over the course of the event. Be sure to keep an eye out for Part 2, coming soon. You can find all Jaguar Simola Hill Climb 2018 results at this link.

Ariel Atom

Former Nurburgring driving instructor and friend of Double Apex, Antony Ashley, drove this Honda-powered Ariel Atom up the Simola Course. Ashley also drove his Opel-powered Lotus 7 on the classic car Friday time trial.

Jaguar XJR

Mark Cronje, a multiple national rally champion, manhandled this Jaguar XJR up the hill. Cronje is seen here catching a slide in the 2,0 ton luxobarge, a far cry from the all-wheel-drive rally car that he is used to. It was the first time Cronje competed in the event.

Willie Hepburn

Willie Hepburn is a name that is well-known to racing fans. The old charger raced up the Simola course in his V8-powered Chev Rekord (remember those?). This car has been circuit racing for longer than most spectators of the event have been alive.
