A few months ago we brought you a story about a beautiful Alfa Romeo Touring Car in classic Martini livery. That car sold for a little of R14m. Now, the Jagermeister Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI is up for grabs as well via international auction specialists RM Sotheby’s. Click here to read about a record price achieved by an Alfa GTV6 here in SA.

Race history

The Jagermeister Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI is similar to the Martini-liveried car that we’ve featured before (read more here). It was built by Alfa Romeo’s in-house racing division Alfa Corse (nee Autodelta for our older Alfisti). Chassis 005 was raced by Euroteam in the 1995 DTM/ITC season.

The man behind the wheel was Michael Bartels, an FIA GT champion and former Grand Prix driver. Bartels took pole position and won both DTM races at Diepholz, with lights-to-flag victories, in this very car. He went on to finish 10th in the DTM standings, outscoring the works Alfa Corse drivers Alessandro Nannini and Giancarlo Fisichella, in the process.

Fighting fit

Since its heyday of racing in various Touring Car series the Jagermeister Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI has undergone over R3m worth of refurbishing to keep it race-ready and fighting fit. As a result, the racecar now boasts a fully reconditioned suspension and a fresh engine.

For those who don’t know the 155 V6 TI was a formidable and highly advanced machine. Central to the car’s success was a 2,5-litre V6 engine that was designed by legendary engineer Giuseppe Busso. The 60-degree V6 revved to 12 000 r/min and produced over 360 kW in the process. Furthermore the racecar featured an adjustable, F1-derived inboard suspension system and massive ventilated brakes, as well as the aero package as seen here.
