Mercedes-Benz has done away with the C- and E-class coupes. The company has combined them into one sleek model named the CLE. CLE Coupe SA pricing as well as the local line-up, for now, has landed in our lap.

The CLE Coupe design echoes that of the C-Class, with a similar frontal appearance. The two-door model even shares the same wheelbase as its sedan sibling. However, it is almost 100 mm longer. The added length allowed designers to create a more flowing shape with an arced roofline.

CLE Range

Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) will add two CLE Coupes to the local line-up, at least to begin with. Both are powered by inline four-cylinder engines. These turbopetrol units are badged CLE200 and CLE300. The latter produces 190 kW/400 N.m while the 200 derivative offers 150 kW/320 N.m.

In both cases there is also a mild-hybrid electrical system for added oomph. The e-motor provides 17 kW/205 N.m into the equation. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to the wheels.
