We’ve all exceeded the speed limit by a (large) margin at some point in our lives, go on, admit it. But most of us have somehow, gotten away with it. We’ve all dreamed about driving at high speeds over long distances completely worry-free and without penalty. Well now, you can on the Gold Rush 100.

High-speeds approved

The organiser of Concours SA and the Cannonball Run: Super Car Lifestyle has just introduced a new event called the Gold Rush 100. Super Car Lifestyle has received permission from the Northern Cape Government to run a high-speed event on the R360 between Upington and Askham. Many petrolheads may know this piece of tarmac as the Government Approved High Speed Testing Road. OEM automakers from all over the world come to South Africa during the summer to try out their latest high-performance models in the Northern Cape free from prying eyes, zoom lenses and without fear speeding fines.

Drivers on the Gold Rush 100 will be aiming to set an average high-speed over a set distance, rather than a maximum speed at a single point. This is the same concept used for average speed over distance cameras used in many parts of SA at the moment, except the speeds attained at the Gold Rush 100 will be much higher, and they will not result in a hefty penalty.

Test run

The Gold Rush 100 will officially kick-off in 2021, but the organisers are inviting supercar owners to join them for a test run of the event in March of this year.
