FINAL PODIUM

  1. Perez
  2. Verstappen
  3. Leclerc

LAP 51/51: CHEQUERED FLAG

Perez secures another win and becomes the first driver to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix twice. Max finishes P2 while Leclerc crosses the line in P3.

LAP 50/51: CHAOS IN THE PIT LANE

Alpine’s Ocon came into the pit lane and was greeted by a host of photographers and marshalls. He had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting anyone during a live race.

LAP 49/51: RUSSELL PITS FOR THE FASTEST LAP

Russell is called into the pits to put on a set of soft tyres. He had a massive 25-second gap to pit, so there was no risk in putting and claiming an extra point for the team.

LAP 46/51: MCLAREN IN THE POINTS

Hulkenburg went deep and left a space for Norris to claim P10. While Lando has been driving well, Piastri is in P13 and could snatch a point by the end of the race.

LAP 41/51: 10 LAPS TO GO

Perez has cemented a dominant lead over Max and Leclerc. Alonso made his ambitions clear that he wants to take the fight to Leclerc for the final podium position. Hamilton is closing on Sainz, closing the gap to 0.2 seconds at the end of the main straight.

LAP 37/51: HAMILTON CLOSING IN ON SAINZ

While the race has settled down for the last few laps. Hamilton turned up the heat and managed to close the gap to Sainz in P5. With DRS activated, the Mercedes may be able to make a move on Sainz in the next few laps.

LAP 31/51: RED BULL ISSUES

Perez has been continuously building a lead over Max Verstappen. Max has been on the radio to complain about his engine braking and balance. In the meantime, Perez has been extending his lead to over 2 seconds. Hamilton is also complaining over the radio about his tyres, with the idea of a two-stop strategy being floated around.

LAP 26/51: RUSSELL VS STROLL

Stroll has not had the best few laps as he scrapped the wall and went off track to let Hamilton through. Russell has been putting pressure on Stroll, with the Mercedes team agreeing that the Aston Martin may need to come in for another pit stop before the end of the race. Russell seems to be hanging back a bit, waiting for the optimal time to strike again.

LAP 20/51: PEREZ BUILDING A LEAD

Perez has been putting in great laps and extending his lead over Verstappen. While the lead was around 0.4 seconds a few laps ago, Perez has grown this lead to 1.6 seconds. Hamilton manages to overtake Stroll after the Canadian driver went off track and lost some time in turn 16. Hamilton took full advantage of the DRS and made the overtake into turn 1.

LAP 15/51: HAMILTON OVERTAKES RUSSELL

Hamilton lost out during the safety car but quickly moved his way back up. The 7-time World Champion caught Russell napping and made a move without the need of DRS.

LAP 14/51: RACE RESTARTS

Perez leads into turn 1 while Max challenges Leclerc into turn 3. Fernando Alonso makes a move on Carlos Sainz to secure P4. Stroll overtakes Russell to take P7. Hamilton is down in P8.

LAP 11/51: SAFETY CAR

The AlphaTauri of DeVries halts to a stop and causes a full safety car. Hamilton loses out since he just changed his tyres while Perez managed to jump Verstappen. Since Verstappen pitted under the yellow flags, he fell below both Perez and Leclerc.

LAP 10/51: YELLOW FLAGS AND PIT STOPS

While Alonso dropped back from Hamilton a few laps ago, it seems that the tyres on the Mercedes were starting to give out. Alonso quickly closed the gap and Mercedes pulled Hamilton in for a pit stop.

LAP 8/51: PIT STOPS

A few teams have come in for their first pit stops of the race. Moving from medium tyres to hards, they may try to push the hards to the end of the race.

LAP 6/51: PEREZ OVERTAKES LECLERC

Perez closes in on Lerclerc and makes the overtake into turn 1. This makes the fight between Verstappen and Perez. Alonso has dropped back from Hamilton in P5. While Hamilton did look like he could make a move on the Ferrari, it seems more likely that he’s just sticking behind to benefit from the DRS.

LAP 4/51: MAX TAKES THE LEAD

Max Verstappen breezed past Leclerc with DRS on the main straight. Perez is also putting pressure on the Ferrari, with DRS making overtaking effortless for the Red Bulls.

LAP 2/51: LECLERC KEEPS P1

Lights out and away we go! Leclerc manages to stay in P1 into turn 1. While Max did get close to the Ferrari on the long straight, it seems like DRS will be needed to make the overtake. Russell had a great start from P11 and worked his way to P9 by the end of lap 1.

FORMATION LAP

All 20 drivers get off the line for the formation lap. All eyes will be on Max Verstappen as he takes the fight to polesitter Charles Leclerc into turn 1. Perez is not far behind and could easily make it a three-way fight around lap 1. Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz may also be on the charge if they have a great start.
