Bespoke sports and supercars seem to be commonplace these days. For those who want more than your ‘run of the mill’ model there are specialist firms such as Bermat. The Italian company partnered with specialist race outfit JAS Motorsport to create the track-only (for now) Bermat GT-Pista.

High-tech

JAS Motorsport used its extensive experience in the world of racing to create the Bermat GT-Pista from the ground up. Central to the new creation is a carbon-fibre monocoque ensuring a lightweight and stiff platform to work off. The end result is a total mass of 1 100 kg, not much more than a Mazda MX-5.

The slinky Italian is low slung and full of sharp lines and creases. There are massive air intakes down the flanks and plenty of naked exposed carbon fibre. At the rear, there is a fixed rear wing that works in conjunction with a racecar-like rear diffuser.

Furthering the motorsport theme is a push-rod suspension setup with adjustable dampers that control 19-inch OZ Racing wheels wrapped in sticky Pirelli footwear. Behind those wheels are six-pot callipers chomping down on vented discs.

Force-fed power

Under the engine cover lies a forced-fed four-pot motor. The engine isn’t particularly powerful, but it doesn’t need to be with so little mass to haul around. Power is rated between 235 and 300 kW, depending on the owner’s preferences. Drive is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox before being directed to a mechanical limited-slip differential. The Bermat GT-Pista is said to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in four seconds flat

Focused: Bermat GT-Pista

The minimalist cabin has a steering wheel that looks as though it was nicked from a Le Mans racer. There are an array of dials and buttons to control on the face, and a pair of paddles on the rear surface to control the transmission. The steering column isn’t adjustable to maintain the driver’s position with the cockpit. Instead, there is a moveable pedal box to tailor the driving position.

The Bermat GT-Pista is due to go on sale during the first half of 2022. Road-legal versions featuring either an internal combustion or electric powertrains will follow.
