Audi just unveiled its most powerful production car ever. It's electric.

This new electric flagship isn't just about raw power; it's a fast Gran Turismo with serious range and customisation, setting a new standard for luxury EVs.

New

Audi South Africa has dropped a car that redefines the family hierarchy. The RS e-tron GT performance is now the most powerful production model the brand has let loose to the public. Audi is treating it as the new flagship for the brand. The RS e-tron GT performance is being sold as a fast Gran Turismo with genuine long-distance range, serious hardware, and enough customisation to keep the configurator crowd busy for a while.

Power output

The headline figure is 680 kW, available when Launch Control is engaged. In normal running the car still makes a hefty 550 kW, which is more than enough to make most petrol super sedans look underfed. Audi quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 2,9 seconds, or 2,5 seconds with Launch Control. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Audi has leaned hard on its electric quattro system to keep the delivery tidy. Torque splits as 409 N.m to the front axle and 590 N.m to the rear, giving the car the sort of traction you want when the right foot gets greedy exiting a corner. The battery is a 105 kWh unit. Audi says that is good for between 533 and 592 km depending on conditions and use.

RS suspension tuning

Quattro has been central to Audi’s identity for more than four decades. The RS e-tron GT performance is being positioned as its most advanced electric expression yet. The car uses standard adaptive air suspension with an electronically controlled two-chamber, two-valve setup, plus continuously variable damping at all four corners.

Audi drive select lets the driver adjust ride height and suspension settings for comfort or a more aggressive setup. The car drops itself at higher speeds to cut drag and improve stability.

Exclusive to this model is RS Performance mode, which brings the whole car to heel for hard driving. It coordinates the powertrain, suspension, torque distribution, aerodynamics, and thermal management so the system works as one under sustained load. Audi’s point is obvious: the car should not only feel quick for a moment, it should stay sharp when the road gets proper and the driver keeps asking for more.

Push-to-Pass adds another layer. Press the button and the car delivers an extra 70 kW for up to ten seconds. This function will be used for overtakes, corner exits, and unnecessary ego maintenance. It gives the RS e-tron GT performance a more overt, more playful character than the usual silent EV wave of torque.

The car uses an 800-volt architecture and can DC charge at up to 320 kW (not that we have any of those chargers in SA) under ideal conditions. Audi says 10 to 80 per cent takes about 18 minutes. There is an 11 kW onboard AC charger for home or workplace use. Standard equipment includes the e-tron charging system compact, wall-mount clip, second charging port, Mode 3 public charging cable, South African domestic connector, and an industrial CEE 32 A connector, with two extra industrial connectors available as options.

Looking tough

Audi Sport says every surface and aerodynamic feature on the car was shaped to balance presence with function. The body-coloured Singleframe grille, front side air ducts, and mirror housings sit with black window trim and Polar White Audi rings. Buyers wanting more theatre can spec the Black Styling package, which swaps in gloss black front side air ducts and rear diffuser aero channels, plus Anthracite Grey Audi rings and mirror housings in gloss black, gloss carbon, or matte carbon camouflage.

The Gloss Carbon package goes further by replacing the front side air ducts, rear diffuser aero channels, and door trim inlays with gloss carbon. The Matte Carbon Camouflage package is new to Audi, inspired by the supercar end of the market, and uses crushed carbon fibre in resin so every panel gets its own pattern. It is offered on the front side air ducts, rear diffuser aero channels, and door trim inlays, again with the same mirror housing options.

The stance is backed by standard 21-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, the largest and most performance focused wheels fitted to the model. They sit alongside Audi ceramic brakes and gloss red calipers, with gloss Anthracite Grey calipers also available. Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light, dynamic light sequencing, and dynamic indicators complete the front end. A blue lighting element and X motif give the car a distinct signature.

The standard panoramic tinted glass roof stretches from the windscreen to the rear window, bringing in light without cooking the cabin. Buyers can also opt for a panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency, or a carbon fibre reinforced plastic roof in gloss or dark matte finish. That carbon roof is not only about appearance; it also trims mass.

Cabin

Inside, fine Nappa leather, Dinamica microfibre, Graphite Grey inlays, and stainless steel pedals set the tone. The layout is clearly set up around the driver. Audi wants the car to feel like a proper Gran Turismo, so the cabin has to do more than look fast in a brochure.

Sport Seats Pro are standard and bring integrated head restraints with illuminated RS emblems, electric adjustment, pneumatic side bolsters, heating, ventilation, and memory for the driver’s seat, steering wheel, and exterior mirrors. The rear cabin has shaped outer seats, a centre seat, and a 40:20:40 split-folding backrest. This keeps the car usable without turning it into a limo.

Optional RS Design Packages in Red or Grey add contrasting stitching, Dinamica trim, coloured seat belts, and more RS-specific detailing. Audi exclusive broadens the interior scope further, letting buyers shape the colours, materials, and finishes around their own taste.

Audi virtual cockpit plus comes with an RS-specific display layout, while the head-up display puts critical information in the driver’s sightline. MMI navigation plus with MMI touch, Audi connect navigation and infotainment services, Audi connect emergency call and service, the Audi phone box, and smartphone interface all come standard. A Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System is fitted, too.

Park Assist Plus, Surround View Cameras, and Power Steering Plus make the big flagship easier to place. Lane Departure Warning, Side Assist with Exit Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Assist, tyre pressure monitoring, and a full airbag system round out the safety side.
