New face and trim

Most obvious of the changes takes place on the facia. A new intake grille is now larger and black in colour and plunges lower into the front bumper. The lower skidplate is silver in colour. Silver trim strips are also used to highlight the main air dam and the headlamps. Speaking of which, new LED daytime running lights are sculpted in shape. These are complemented by LED fog lamps. 2,8 versions receive a new 18-inch alloy wheel with turbine design.

The major change inside is the adoption of a black as the colour of choice for the leather interior. It seems not everyone was a fan of the dark brown leather, and Toyota has given the newest version a more premium feel with this new hue. Satin-finish accents are used on some of the trim strips (around the infotainment screen, door cards and centre console). An all-new infotainment system boasts an eight-inch screen and features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

Streamlined range

Some time back Toyota SA took the decision to remove the option of a manual transmission and all petrol-fed derivatives from the Fortuner range. A new 2,8 GD-6 VX has been added to the mix. This range-leader has all the bells and whistles of its siblings, and includes seat heating (driver & passenger), welcome lighting and the collision-warning Toyota Safety Sense system.

Buyers can choose between two turbodiesel engines, both mated with six-speed automatic transmissions, the smaller displacing 2,4 litres and the larger 2,8. The latter engine now has an additional 20 kW of power and 50 N.m of torque bringing headline figures to 150 kW/500 N.m. A new balancer shaft ensures smoother running of the inline engine. Another technical update is the addition of a limited-slip differential into all models.

The revised Toyota Fortuner range is available via your local dealership as of today.
