We’ve just learned that Lamborghini has confirmed that it will name the most hardcore Aventador in its stable SVJ – a moniker that harks back to a limited edition version of the legendary Miura.  The J in the name is pronounced as Jota in Spanish.  And we’re all already familiar with the SuperVeloce name that adds go-faster pedigree to Lamborghini’s models.

The Italian firm has released a video that shows the Aventador SVJ in testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife – the ultimate proving ground for both hardcore supercars and run of the mill family vehicles. And there are already rumours about that Lamborghini’s latest raging bull has already managed to snatch the title of fastest production car from the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which was set only a year ago.

In any event, the new Aventador SVJ has to reclaim its honour for the range-toppers after the Huracan Performante became the fastest Lamborghini around the ‘Ring last year.

That’ll take some serious doing. The Aventador SVJ’s clever orange camouflage as seen in the video does a good job of hiding vents and spoilers, but there’s no mistaking the purpose of the massive rear wing. It’s also safe to assume that an updated version of the company’s active aerodynamics system will grace the model, so the rear scaffolding is unlikely to be a fixed component.

But the Aventador SVJ will need more than that to topple the Huracan Performante and 911 GT2 RS. The video also alludes to the car being fitted with super sticky Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubber. The 6,5-litre V12 engine has probably also been massaged to produce in the region of 600 kW. Expect a much lighter chassis and trick suspension too.
