About a year ago General Motors sold the Opel brand to the firm that owns Peugeot and Citroen, known as PSA. During this time the German brand has been relatively quiet. This week Opel gave us a glimpse of a new, upcoming model called the Opel GT X Experimental. This design study gives us a preview of the design direction of future models.

A new family look

The new Opel GT X Experimental will be revealed later this year, presumably at the Paris Motor Show. It will give us an indication of what the next generation of Opel models will look. It is the first vehicle from that will feature the new face of Opel.

The main feature of the face is the intersection of two axes on the company’s emblem. On the one hand, is the characteristic centre crease on the bonnet and on the other, the wing-shaped daytime running light motif. The signature ‘lightning bolt’ forms the central point of the design.

The headlamps, daytime running lights, cameras and sensors of the assistance systems, along with the ‘lightning bolt’ are framed by a unique design element. This element is reminiscent of the eye opening of a helmet and is called ‘Vizor’. The Opel ‘Vizor’ makes its debut on the GT X Experimental and will give future Opel models a new, distinctive, bold and pure face.

The CEO says

“We need to strictly follow our brand values in everything we do. This is valid from the idea right up to the development and implementation of new vehicles and it is a key element of our PACE! plan. The identity of our brand is our future,” said Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller. “That is why I charged our design and engineering teams with visualising these values by means of a concept car. The Opel GT X Experimental, which will celebrate its world premiere before the end of the year, is the result.”
