Several new Maserati models are heading to South Africa in 2021 as the brand announced earlier today. The Italian marque doesn’t play a major role in the local context, but it is looking to change that with these new introductions.

Hybrid power

The first introduction takes place early in the year with the local launch of the Maserati Ghibli Hybrid. This is the very first hybrid-powered vehicle produced by the brand. Powering the Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is a 2,0-litre turbocharged four cylinder petrol internal combustion engine that is mated with a 48 volt alternator and an additional electric supercharger (e-Booster), supported by a boot-mounted battery. Peak power rated at 243 kW and peak torque of 450 N.m is delivered from just 1 500 r/min.

High performance

The Ghibli Trofeo and the larger Quattroporte Trofeo models will follow the luxury saloon. Both Trofeo derivatives are fitted with a Ferrari-sourced twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 433 kW delivered through the rear wheels. Both models will offer a top speed of 326 km/h. These two Trofeo versions will be added to the existing Levante Trofeo to complete the Trofeo collection (as pictured below).

MC20 Supercar

Most exciting of the new Maserati models is the arrival of the Maserati MC20 supercar. The MC20, which was voted the World’s Most Beautiful Supercar at the 2021 Festival Automobile International, is due on local soil during the latter part of the year.

The MC20 is powered by a bespoke V6 engine. The twin-turbocharged unit produces 464 kW of power with 730 N.m of torque on tap between 3 000 and 5 500 r/min. Power is sent to the rear axle through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Maserati says the MC20 can sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 2,9 seconds and it has a top speed of over 325 km/h.
