Morgan may be known to some car enthusiasts but it doesn’t have the same brand cachet as, say, Ariel or Caterham. The British carmaker builds quirky little roadsters that look as though they belong in period-piece dramas. At any rate, the firm seems to find continual support for the cars it produces. The Morgan Supersport 400 may even widen that appeal as it is the most powerful and focussed vehicle ever made by the company for road use.
Supersport 400 is the purest expression of Supersport, signalling a natural progression for the range and allowing us to unlock greater possibilities from the CXV platform, all while remaining true to Morgan’s core principles of creating beautiful and engaging lightweight sportscars. From the outset, our aim has been to create a vehicle that is sharper and more deliberate, ensuring the additional power is delivered in a way that feels balanced, intuitive and deeply rewarding for the driver. At the same time, a subtle design evolution gives Supersport 400 a more distinct and purposeful character

Latest Tech
Until pretty recently the Morgan Motor Company produced cars that used old techniques of construction. This included wooden bases within ladder-frame chassis. But they have moved with the times and the current Supersport has an aluminium platform. As a result the car’s dynamics have been updated for the modern age. In addition, the company has turned to an outside supplier for powertrains. For many years BMW has been the choice of engine and transmission for modern Morgans.
Powered Up
Under the long bonnet of the Supersport 400 is the famed turbocharged inline-six from the Bavarian Motor Works. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, a similar combo that one would find in most (A90) Toyota Supras. In its latest guise the B58 motor delivers 300 kW, the first time any Morgan road car dishes up that much power. The car weighs a featherweight 1 170 kg. As a result it can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3,6 seconds. Its top speed is a hair-ruffling 290 km/h.
But it is no one-trick pony. The Supersport 400 features adjustable Nitron dampers, revised suspension geometry and model-specific calibration. There is a limited slip differential (LSD) on the options list. 19-inch forged alloy wheels and sticky Michelin footwear are standard.
Morgan’s press material says: the package is engineered to deliver greater composure, precision and control while preserving the approachable character of the Supersport platform. With 24 clicks of damping adjustment, drivers can tailor ride and response to suit their preference and the road ahead.
