Mercedes-Benz seems to be on a roll when it comes to new electric models and concept cars. First, we saw the retro-racer Vision Silver Arrow that made its debut at Pebble Beach. Then came the first of its EQ range called the Mercedes-Benz EQC400. Now we have the Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic.

A van for all reasons

The Mercedes-Benz Vision Urbanetic is a revolutionary mobility concept that enables on-demand movement of people and goods. It was conceptualised by the firm’s van division.

The innovative model has the ability to switch between body styles depending on prevailing requirements. It is based on an electrically powered chassis. As with many modern concept cars it features fully networked and autonomous driving.

Vision Urbanetic can accommodate up to 12 passengers in full MPV mode. The cargo module can carry up to ten Euro pallets. A loading space of 3,7 m in length fits into a total vehicle length of 5,14 m. Load volume is rated as 10 m3.

The modules are switched either automatically or manually. Interestingly, the autonomous chassis can also make its way to its next location without a body attached. Mercedes-Benz Vans has created these two options but imagine multiple other uses with a wide array of body types.

More flexibility

Much like the Volvo 360c that we reported on a few days agothe Vision Urbanetic interior design is quite flexible thanks to fully automated driverless operation.

Fully networked IT architecture of the Vision Urbanetic continually monitors routes and data, such as traffic, to adapt real-time to travel in the most efficient manner possible. This saves time for passengers or ensures timeous delivery of cargo.

The new model will make its public debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, otherwise known as the IAA. Learn more about the futuristic model by clicking here and/or watching the video below.
