This massive Toyota 86 Cup save may just be the catch of the year. We love single-make racing formulae. Large fields of the same car, identical in power and specification makes for entertaining racing. There are usually racing incidents, as this Toyota 86 Cup save proves. The monotype series race took place in Sandown, Australia this past weekend.

Miraculous

Bailey Sweeny was running in a strong fifth place at the start of the penultimate lap in a rccent Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia 86 championship race. He was tagged on his rear fender when he went a bit defensive as he crossed the start/finish line. This put the 19-year-old driver into a partial spin, performing a 180 and then another to leave him facing the correct direction.

Somehow, he managed to avoid hitting the pit wall, or get hit by any other of the 34-car field. Not only did he save his car from possible damage, he managed to continue racing. He dropped down to 12th place momentarily but recovered quickly and grabbed another spot before the flag fell. Check out Sweeney’s massive Toyota 86 Cup save below.
