The Lamborghini Huracan was an absolute sales success for the brand. Over 20 000 Huracans were sold worldwide. But even the best things have to come to an end and the company pulled the plug on its ageing sportscar earlier this year. Lambo fans need not fear as a Lamborghini Huracan successor is set to be unveiled within months. Lamborghini has decided to reveal all the info about the new car’s engine before the new model makes its debut.

No More V10

The bad news is that the Lamborghini 634, the codename for the successor to the Huracan, will not have a V10 engine. The new car will join its Revuelto sibling as a High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV). The all-new engine is a twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The powertrain also features a hybrid system with three electric motors. One motor is sandwiched between the engine and eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. While the other two will drive the front wheels. Lamborghini says the total system power is north of 660 kW. That’s a good deal more than the 449 of the Huracan’s V10.

Screamer

The V8 displaces 4,0 litres and has its twin snails nestled within the Vee of the block. BTW, the block contains a flat-plane crankshaft that is connected to titanium conrods. Lambo says that peak power delivered by the ICE will be 589 kW, produced between 9 000 and 9 750 r/min. Maximum engine speed is quoted as a screaming of 10 000 – NICE!. Maximum torque is quoted as 730 N.m.

Lamborghini is well aware that engine noises can define a car’s character. Its press material reads: Another crucial element of the design process was to define the sound, to give the new powerplant a unique and distinctive character and deliver the driver an unparalleled driving experience. The characteristics of the new V8 intensify in a crescendo that at high revs reaches its peak in terms of volume and frequency content and this, in harmony with the vibrations transmitted to the chassis by the flat-plane crankshaft, creates an all-encompassing sensory experience.
