For most people a Porsche GT3 is fast enough. But it seems in Germany, too much power is never enough as engineering outfit 9FF turbocharges Porsche 992 GT3. Porsche has been a holdout in the performance car world, keeping its beloved GT3 naturally aspirated as long as it can. However, there may come a time when the sportscar maker has to bow to emissions regs and fit some form of assistance to its flat-six engine. As a result we may see a force-fed or hybrid GT3 in the not too distant future.

Ahead of the Curve
Perhaps this 9ff GTurbo, as they refer to it, is a precursor to the car Porsche will eventually have to make. The independent tuning firm, which some of you may know for its top-speed-chasing creations, has developed a turbo kit for the current generation GT3 (code 992). This is the latest in a line of turbocharged GT3s that the company has produced over the years. The most current kit works on the GT3, GT3 Touring and on the GT3 RS, as all versions have the same powertrain. The flat-six engine develops 375 kW and 520 N.m in standard guise. Torque is sent only to the rear wheels, unlike the AWD 911 Turbo S.

The 9ff Engineering kit bolts straight on to the standard car and the process is completely reversible. There are no changes to the factory internals. As a result the car still revs to 9 000 r/min. It produces 560 kW and 750 N.m of torque; the latter figure is limited. The car (pictured) is kitted with a manual transmission. The company estimates it will blast from rest to 100 km/h in about 2,7 seconds. It has already been tested from 100 – 200 km/h in 5,0 seconds.
9ff offers two boost settings for drivers to choose from. 0,2 bars adds power across the range for a more relaxed drive. At the flick of a switch 0,6 bars of additional pressure unleashes a proper hooligan. Peak pressure is on tap from about 2 000 r/min. In the absence of a GT2 RS, this is the closest Porsche fans will get to a wild RWD turbocharged 911 with a crazy power output. And this is just the start as 9ff is targeting 736 kW (1 000 hp) as its nezt goal.
