The Ford Pro Electric SuperVan must be the quickest hardware delivery vehicle in the world. This one-off creation made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed taking place in the UK this weekend. They should have asked local racing legend Sarel van der Merwe (as some time contributor) to drive it. That way Supervan would have been behind the wheel of SuperVan.

All-electric

The Ford Pro Electric SuperVan, as you may have guessed, features an all-electric drivetrain. Four electric motors and a 50 kWh liquid-cooled battery produce roughly 1 500 kW. As a result the ‘hauler’ can blast from 0-100 km/h in under two seconds. This prototype was in secret by Ford Performance and Austrian electrified racing specialist Stard, formerly of FIA RX fame. The press material says that the Ford Pro Electric SuperVan also has a track-ready chassis.

“We’re bringing SuperVan into the 21st century with 2,000 PS of all-electric power for unmatched excitement,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports.

Quick History Lesson

Ford SuperVan history

This isn’t the first time Ford has created a high-performance version of its famous Transit model. The very first SuperVan was revealed in 1971. The Mk2 Transit featured a mid-mounted engine taken from the Le Mans-winning Ford GT40. SuperVan 2 was glass-fibre version of the Transit Mk2. It boasted a Cosworth V8 from Ford’s C100 racing car. SuperVan 3 reborn as the facelifted Transit. SuperVan 3 was powered by a Cosworth HB engine that it shared with F1 cars of the era.

Ford’s engineers have programmed a ‘tyre cleaning; mode into the car’s electronics. This mode fully brakes one axle while spinning the other. This helps ‘clean’ and warm the tyres before performance runs.
