We take a quick look back at the British race in our post, F1 Review Britain 2023.

The British Grand Prix brought on many twists and turns, with a late safety car shuffling the order even more before the chequered flag. McLaren had an amazing qualifying session yesterday and brought that momentum with them for the main race.

Max Verstappen had a tricky start, ceding the lead to McLaren’s Lando Norris. The Dutch driver regained the lead by lap five and settled in comfortably for the remainder of the race. Verstappen crossed the line to win his first-ever British Grand Prix while his team equal McLaren’s record of 11 consecutive wins.

A Tale of Two Red Bulls

Max Verstappen had a slow start, allowing Norris to overtake him into turn 1. Norris’ teammate Oscar Piastri also challenged the leading Red Bull, but was held off. Max managed to reclaim the lead with the help of DRS, never giving up the lead till the end of the race.

On the other hand, Perez had to recover from a terrible qualifying session. While the Mexican driver was making excellent progress, the safety car did slow him down a bit. Regardless, Perez pushed to the limit and managed to work his way up to P6. His promised title challenge is now all but done.

McLaren’s Return

McLaren had an excellent qualifying performance and managed to translate that into exceptional race pace. Norris took the lead from Max Verstappen into turn 1 and maintained P1 for the first few laps. The DRS advantage of Red Bull was more than enough to breeze past the McLaren. However, Norris’ steed had enough pace to hold off Lewis Hamilton for the last 15 laps.

Recovery at Mercedes

Mercedes did not have the best qualifying session yesterday and started down the order. Hamilton had a terrible start and found himself off track during the first lap. The seven-time world champ fell back to ninth. Despite this, Russell had a great start on soft tyres and managed to overtake the Ferraris. Hamilton stayed out longer and benefited from the Safety Car. He stopped during this phase. This saw him jump up the field to secure his 14th podium finish at Silverstone.

Unlucky Ferraris

The Ferraris had a great start and played their strategy perfectly throughout the race. They came into the pits at the right time to cover both Mercedes cars. However, the virtual safety car and safety car allowed Hamilton to jump the field and secure P3.

Sainz found himself on the wrong tyre compound tyres after the restart. This saw him lose a number of positions and drop down the order. From P4 and P5, Ferrari ended the race in P9 and P10. Another weekend that failed to deliver for the Scuderia.
