FINAL PODIUM

  1. Verstappen
  2. Norris
  3. Hamilton

LAP 52/52: MAX TAKES THE CHEQUERED FLAG

Max Verstappen crosses the line to win his first-ever British Grand Prix. Norris secures a podium place for McLaren while Hamilton secures his 14th podium finish at Silverstone.

LAP 48/52: PEREZ IN P6

Sergio Perez has made his way up to P6 despite a shocking qualifying session yesterday. Perez is on a fresh set of soft tyres and is using them to slice through the field. Perez is just 3.5 seconds behind Russell, so Perez may be able to move up a few more places before the end of the race.

LAP 44/52: SAINZ LOSES OUT

Sainz is on hard tyres and has lost a few places in the last lap. Perez and Albon made their way past Sainz, slowing him down enough for Leclerc to also snatch a place from his teammate. This leaves the Ferraris in P9 and P10.

LAP 42/52: 10 LAPS TO GO

Hamilton has been benefiting from DRS, but is still behind the McLaren of Lando Norris. With 10 laps remaining, there are still a number of drivers on the grid that could snatch a podium place.

LAP 40/52: SAFETY CAR ENDING

The safety car is coming in at the end of the lap. Max leads Norris. However, Norris is on hard tyres. Hamilton is behind on soft tyres, and is right behind the McLaren. If Hamilton wants P2, he will need to make the overtake in the next few laps.

LAP 33/52: SAFETY CAR

A Haas has come to a stop with a blown engine, bringing out the virtual safety car. Some cars pit under virtual safety car conditions. However, the full safety car came out shortly after. This makes it perfect for Verstappen, Norris, and Hamilton to pit under full safety car conditions. This saves them a ton of time, shuffling the order dramatically. Hamilton pits and secures his place in P3.

LAP 31/52: RUSSELL OVERTAKES LECLERC

George Russell may have exited the pits behind Leclerc, but the softer tyres allowed him to overtake Leclerc effortlessly within a few laps. Hamilton remains on his initial set of medium tyres, but if he were to pit now, he would come back out behind Sainz.

LAP 29/52: SAINZ PITS

The Ferrari of Carlos Sainz has come into the pits for a new set of hard tyres. This leaves Hamilton and Russell in clean air, both maintaining their tyres incredibly well. Russell has now come in for a new set of medium tyres and has come back on track behind Leclerc. However, Russell does have softer tyres and could take them to the end of the race.

LAP 19/52: RUSSELL VS LECLERC

George Russell is one of the only drivers to start the race on soft tyres. While he has managed to overtake Sainz, he finds himself stuck behind Charles Leclerc. Even with the extra speed advantage of DRS, Russell is still struggling to overtake. Charles Leclerc has been called in to box, leaving Russell with some clean air behind the Mclarens.

LAP 10/52: THE POSSIBILITY OF RAIN

There is a definite possibility of rain in the next few laps. Since the track is quite large, rain can affect some parts of the track and not others. This makes it an incredibly important strategy call for teams to understand when’s the best time to move to intermediate tyres.

LAP 7/52: HAMILTON VS ALONSO

Hamilton dropped down to P9 during the first few corners. This pushed Hamilton down below his former teammate, Fernando Alonso. The Mercedes does have more race pace than the Aston Martin, and comfortably made the overtake on lap 7.

LAP 4/52: MAX RECLAIMS THE LEAD

DRS has now been enabled, allowing Verstappen to close up quickly behind Norris in the lead. Norris is doing a great job of fending off the Red Bull, but couldn’t do much with the Red Bull’s DRS advantage.

LAP 1/52: LANDO TAKES THE LEAD

Lando Norris has an amazing start to take the lead into turn 1. Max challenged the Brit in the first few corners, but had to settle for P2 as they finish the first lap. Hamilton went wide and lost a few places in the process.

FORMATION LAP

All 20 cars get off the line as they warm their tyres for the race. Max Verstappen has a commanding lead, but the McLaren of Lando Norris has nothing to lose going into turn 1. All eyes will be on the first corner.
