Last year BMW SA launched the M4 CS. Soon the Coupe version will be joined by the four-door BMW M3 CS.

More power

Likes its two-door sibling the M3 CS will have a slight power increase over other M3 models. In this instance, the twin-turbocharged 3,0-litre inline six develops 338 kW and 600 N.m of torque.

In keeping with BMW’s current strategy for high-performance models, the only transmission on offer will be the firm’s M DCT (dual-clutch) automatic. Power is still fed exclusively to the rear axle via an active M differential.

More performance

BMW claims that the M3 CS sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,9 seconds. The top speed of the CS, which comes as standard with the M Driver’s Package, is electronically limited to 280 km/h.

Claimed fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 8,3 L/100 km; CO2 emissions combined is rated as 194 g/km.

Better grip

To harness the extra power the suspension the links and wheel carriers at both the front and rear axles are made from forged aluminium helping keep unsprung mass to a minimum.

The special edition’s wheels (9 J x 19, 10 J x 20) are fitted as standard with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres (265/35, 285/30). These semi-slick, road-legal tyres provide high lateral grip. The M3 CS can also be ordered with Michelin Sport road tyres.

Special interior…

BMW M3 CS comes standard with a two-tone full leather interior. Standard features include automatic climate control, a Harman Kardon surround sound system and the Navigation system Professional.

… and exterior

M3 CS features a prominent front bumper with large air intakes. The Gurney spoiler lip on the boot works in conjunction with the front splitter and the rear diffuser to help minimise dynamic lift. These components are made from lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), as are the bonnet and roof of the new BMW M3 CS.

Thin-spoke light-alloy wheels are painted in a dark charcoal hue to, helping to set the M3 CS apart from other models.

Limited numbers

Only 1 200 units of the BMW M3 CS will be built. It will be available in a few months from R1 773 500. Initially on 15 units were made available locally, but it is reported that the allocation has been increased to 20, most of which are already accounted for, so you’d better place an order soon.
