The Geneva Motor was supposed to be in full swing but the international showcase was cancelled late last week. However, that did not stop one small automaker from continuing its presentation. Koenigsegg went ahead with its model unveilings (as you can see in the video at the bottom of this post). Company founder Christian von Koenigsegg presented an all-new model called the Koenigsegg Gemera. The Swedish company will build just 300 examples of its latest creation.

Hybrid power

Koenigsegg Gemera drivetrain

Under that sleek shell the Gemera hides a hybrid drivetrain (pictured) with a combined power output of 1,27 MW, yes 1 270 kW. The three electric motors – one for each rear wheel and one on the crankshaft of the engine are supplemented by a 2,0-litre three-cylinder twin-turbo Freevalve engine, named the Tiny Friendly Giant (or TFG for short). The electrical component is worth 800 kW alone, with the petrol engine making up the rest. Combined torque is quoted as a massive 3 500 N.m. The Koenigsegg Gemera is said to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 1,9 seconds and on to a top speed of 400 km/h. The three electric motors can propel the car to 300 km/h, and the 800V battery gives a range of up to 50 km in EV mode

Four-up

Koenigsegg Gemera is the company’s first four-seater model. With a 3 000 mm wheelbase the claim of seating for four is not a token gesture, as with some other sportscars. There is even enough room to carry luggage for the occupants. Koenigsegg says this is a megacar experience can be shared with family and friends. Creature comforts include four cold and four warm cup holders, front and rear infotainment displays, front and rear wireless phone chargers, onboard internet and Wi-Fi, 11 speaker sound system, exterior and interior cameras, four reading lights, memory foam heated seats, electric front seats, and tri-zone climate control, among others.

Christian speaks

In his words: “Ultimate performance has belonged to the world of two-seaters with very limited luggage space – until now.” “The Gemera is a completely new category of car where extreme megacar meets spacious interior and ultimate environmental consciousness. We call it a Mega-GT.”
