Ryan Tuerck will probably be known to most petrolheads. The US driver is a pro drifter and has built/driven some memorable machinery in the past, including a GT4586, which was a Toyota 86 powered by a Ferrari 458 powertrain. This time Tuerck has gone a step further by creating the V10 powered Formula Supra.

Left-field option

There are plenty of options one could choose to power a Supra. The original BMW-sourced inline six in the A90 can take quite a beating in standard form, and it is near bomb-proof with the right aftermarket bits. A 2JZ would keep the Toyota theme and even a V8 from a Lexus would work.

Formula Supra Judd V10

However, Tuerck and his team went for a left field choice and shoehorned a V10 into the Supra’s nose. And it isn’t a V10 from a Lexus LFA either. This motor was sourced from English specialist engine builder Judd. For those who don’t know, Judd once supplied engines for Formula One and Indy cars in more recent times it has shifted its focus to sports prototypes.

This Toyota Hilux boasts a twin turbocharged V12.

The engine is dubbed Judd GV4 V10 and it displaces 4,0-litres. The naturally aspirated mill revs to 11 000 r/min to produce over 540 kW. In the Formula Supra it is connected to a Hollinger RD6 six-speed sequential transmission. You can listen to the incredible noises it produces in the video at the bottom of this post.

Track ready

Ryan plans to use the Formula Supra for drifting, time attack, and hillclimb events. The aim is to get the car’s mass down to just about 1,1 tons. The car features a wider version of the Supra’s body, which has been fashioned out of carbon-fibre. Massive Brembo brakes are fitted with centre-lock hubs. The 18-inch alloys are retro-F1 inspired and were custom made by Rotiform for this project.
