Saturday mornings mean there’s a new drag race video from UK automotive website Car Wow. This week it’s a turbocharged six-cylinder drag race battle. The three rivals are an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, an Audi RS5 and the outgoing BMW M4.

Six-appeal

The line-up is quite similar in that each car has a six-cylinder engine that features twin-turbochargers. Alfa’s top-spec Giulia has a 2,9-litre V6 that develops 375 kW of power and 600 N.m of torque. Power is sent to the rear axle through an automatic transmission. Audi’s RS5 has a similar engine configuration (it is the same engine that is found in the Audi RS4 which we drove) but it produces 331 kW with an identical torque output. However, the Audi counters with an all-wheel-drive system.

BMW’s M4 has the largest engine here at 3,0-litres and the cylinder layout is in a straight line. Max power is 317 kW with a peak torque value of 550 N.m sent solely to the rear axle. The BMW has a twin-clutch transmission with a notoriously finicky launch control system. You can see the most recent official images and learn more about the upcoming BMW M4/M3 at this link.

Straight line battle

The cars are lined up at an airport runway for various straight-line challenges: a drag race from the line, a rolling race from 80 km/h and a braking test from 110 km/h to standstill.
